Overview

The rotameter measures the fluid flow according to the throttling principle, but it changes the fluid flow area to keep the differential pressure between the upper and lower rotors constant, so it is also called variable flow area constant differential pressure flowmeter, also known as float flowmeter. Rotameter is the most commonly used flowmeter in industry and laboratory. The utility model has the advantages of simple structure, direct viewing, small pressure loss and convenient maintenance. The rotameter is suitable for measuring the small flow through the pipe with diameter d < 150mm, and can also measure the flow of corrosive medium. When in use, the flowmeter is generally installed on the vertical pipe section, and the fluid medium passes through the rotameter from bottom to top. The specially designed rotameter can be installed horizontally or vertically from top to bottom.

Working principle

The rotameter consists of two parts, one of which is a conical tube gradually expanding from bottom to top; The other part of the rotameter is a rotor which is placed in a conical tube and can move freely along the centerline of the tube. When the rotameter measures the fluid flow, the measured fluid flows in from the lower end of the conical tube, and the fluid flow impacts the rotor, And exert a force on it (the magnitude of this force varies with the flow); when the flow is large enough, the generated force will lift the rotor and raise it. At the same time, the measured fluid flows through the annular section between the rotor and the conical pipe wall. At this time, there are three forces acting on the rotor: the dynamic pressure of the fluid on the rotor, the buoyancy of the rotor in the fluid and the gravity of the rotor itself. The flowmeter is installed vertically When, the center of gravity of the rotor will coincide with the cone tube axis, and the three forces acting on the rotor are in the direction parallel to the tube axis. When these three forces reach equilibrium, the rotor floats smoothly at a certain position in the conical tube. For a given rotameter, the size and shape of the rotor have been determined, so its buoyancy in the fluid and its own gravity are known to be constant, and only the dynamic pressure of the fluid on the float changes with the incoming flow velocity. Therefore, when the incoming flow velocity becomes larger or smaller, the rotor will move upward or downward, and the flow cross-sectional area at the corresponding position will also change. Until the flow velocity becomes the corresponding speed when the flow velocity becomes equilibrium, the rotor will be stable at the new position. For a given rotameter, the position of the rotor in the conical tube is in one-to-one correspondence with the flow of fluid through the conical tube.
